The United States Department of Justice filed a motion today which asks US District Judge Derrick Watson to pause proceedings of Hawaii’s lawsuit until the government’s appeal has been resolved.
The Department of Justice is appealing the ruling made by Hawaii federal Judge Watson which puts an indefinite hold on President’s Trump’s executive order to suspend new visas from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen and stops the US refugee program.
The motion states that the outcome of the appeal is necessary before proceeding with a lawsuit. It also states that a hearing scheduled for April 18 should be suspended, along with any other deadline, until the Department of Justice’s appeal is answered.
There has not yet been a response from Hawaii’s State Attorney General’s office on the request.
