Wile E. Coyote avenged? Coyote catches, eats roadrunner in front of Arizona diner customers

The customers at Lucia Diner in Cameron, Arizona say an old coyote stalked, captured and ate a roadrunner near a roadside eatery off of Highway 89.

The coyote is a common sight around Northern Arizona. The bird was believed to be a greater roadrunner one of the many desert animals this inhabit the rough and remote portion of Arizona, about 35 miles southeast of the Grand Canyon.

“I’ve seen this skinny coyote around before but never seen him eat,” said bystander Phil “Boss” Barrow.

Witness Robert Allen was having coffee when he heard a commotion outside. “The coyote grabbed something then I saw it was a bird. We see lots of roadrunners but it’s rare to see one caught, especially by a coyote.”

Coconino County deputy sheriff came by the Lucia Diner after hearing about the unusual occurrence. He said, “There was nothing left, just a couple of feathers.”

According to witnesses this particular coyote had been identified by its extremely long ears and was often noticed lurking around the area. It left a few minutes after eating the roadrunner. “The coyote seemed real satisfied, smug even,” said Barrow.
