For the third year running, Proflight Zambia has been holding the Annual Travel Agents Awards aimed at recognizing the nation’s leading travel agents. The 2016 edition was held at Lusaka’s Southern Sun Hotel and was graced by the Minister of Tourism and Arts, the Honorable Charles Banda, MP.
Proflight Zambia used the occasion to recognize and reward some of the high-performing travel agents and those who show the most promise – and justifiably so – as 40% of Proflight’s air ticket sales comes from the agents.
And the winners are:
– Voyagers Zambia: Highest Flown Revenue (Overall) on both Domestic and International Routes
– Voyagers Ndola: Second Prize (Highest Flown Revenue International Routes)
– Mukwa Travel: Third Prize (Highest Flown Revenue International Routes)
– Zambia Ground Handlers: Second Prize (Highest Flown Revenue Domestic Routes)
– People and Places: Third Prize (Highest Flown Revenue and Domestic Routes)
– Arc Safe Travel: Winner (Most Improved Award)
– Orient Travel and Tours: Second Prize (Most Improved Award)
– Africa Destinations: Third Prize (Most Improved Award)
– Xian Travel: Highest Revenue for New 2016 Agency
The Tourism Minister, along with the Zambia Tourism Agency’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Felix Chaila, and Proflight Zambia Director of Government and Industry Affairs, Captain Philip Lemba, presented the awards to the winning agents. In his speech, the Hon. Banda stressed the importance of agents:
“Travel agents are the lifeblood of the aviation sector, and by extension, the nation’s tourism sector. Honoring their work through such awards is one of the ways we can appreciate and acknowledge their contribution to the country. Already we are seeing increased international passenger movements and higher entry into our major national parks. We recorded a 4.7 percent increase to over a million in international passenger movements during the first 9 months of 2016, compared to 957, 373 over the corresponding period in 2015.”
Proflight put 213,000 seats on the market in 2016 and flew 130,000 passengers with on-time performance consistently being around 80 percent for the year, with the aim of reaching 90 different punctuality for 2017.
Voyagers Zambia Director Molly Care was delighted to receive the award:
“We are delighted to have been outstanding in this year’s travel agent’s awards. Ii dedicate these awards to my staff for always doing a tremendous job in the travel sector. A big ‘thank you’ to Proflight for recognizing us travel agents in this country. We love our country, hence, we will continue to do our best to improve travel.”
The Zambia Tourism Agency commended Proflight Zambia for this wonderful and inspiring initiative, and applauded the winners as well.
