Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine sets base for monthly meetings

Earlier this week, the senior management team at the newly re-organized Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine met to set the base for what will be their monthly meeting. Minister Alain St.Ange had been meeting with individual senior staff and holding staff meetings as he acquainted himself with the different entities falling under the portfolio of the new Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine.

As he opened the meeting that was held at the Ministry’s ESPACE Building Offices in Victoria, Minister St.Ange said that it was important for the senior management to meet at least once a month to ensure that a well-informed team existed. “We are meeting staff, we are visiting the entities that make up the ministry, but it is also as important for us to sit together to update ourselves on what is happening in the different branches of our ministry. This is the only way we can all defend each other and remain united as a team,” said Minister St.Ange.

Different topics were raised and discussed, and these included the setting up of a committee for preparatory works for the separation of responsibility of “Operation and Commercial” at the airport and port. The Seychelles Maritime Safety Administration (SMSA) was also discussed with the aim of preparing necessary documents for completing the process to make it an autonomous authority. Each head of department gave a brief of what was being done in their respective departments and tabled what they saw as challenges. The proposed budget for 2017 was also discussed.

Present at the meeting was the whole senior management team of the Ministry: Anne Lafortune, PS for Tourism; Garry Albert, PS for Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine; Sherin Francis, CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board; Andre Ciseau, CEO of the Seychelles Ports Authority; Gilbert Faure, CEO of the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority; Captain Joachim Valmont, CEO of the SMSA; and Roy Kinnear of Air Seychelles.

The next meeting to close 2016 will be held on December 29.
