Air India announces ambitious plans

Air India has ambitious plans for route and fleet expansion in 2017 and beyond. Ashwani Lohani, CMD of the Maharaja line, at a PATA-Ministry meeting in New Delhi, India, on December 26 siad that 6 new destinations will be included in the network in the new year, including Washington, Tel Aviv, and Toronto.

The meeting was attended by travel industry leaders, who heard Lohani say that 14 new planes will join the fleet in 2017, while the target was to add 100 planes by 2020, taking the strength to 232 from the present 132.


Madrid and Vienna were among the 4 new cities added to the network last year.

Air India made an impressive presentation to the gathering where it was emphasized that tourism and aviation are closely linked. On the domestic network, more cities will be linked within Rajasthan to boost tourism and commercial traffic.

From the Delhi hub itself, daily departures were 100, while total daily departures were 455 flights.
