American Airlines submits plans for Chicago O’Hare-Guatemala City summer flight

American Airlines has submitted for government approval, an increase in summer flights from Chicago’s O’Hare Airport to Guatemala City. If approved, a once-a-week flight will operate from July 8 to August 19, 2017 aboard a Boeing 737-800.

There have been a couple of waves of emigration from Guatemala to Chicago – in the early 1980s when many fled a particularly violent period during Guatemala’s 36-year civil war, and in 1998 after Hurricane Mitch caused devastation in the country. These ties continue to bind the two destinations together, and many families plan visits during the summer months.
