Atlantic City 2nd most expensive U.S. destination for New Year’s Eve

The popular resort town of Atlantic City, New Jersey, is the second most expensive U.S. destination in which to celebrate New Year’s Eve 2016. That’s the conclusion of the latest survey conducted by CheapHotels.org

In making this determination, the survey compared 30 major destinations in the United States based on their lodging cost. The minimum price tag an overnight visitor will have to pay on December 31 to stay in a double room was established for each destination. It bears pointing out that only such hotels rated 3 stars or higher and those located close to the city center/ beach were considered.

With a nightly rate of $351 for its most affordable room, Atlantic City ranks as the runner-up, just behind Miami Beach. Compared to what a guest would spend on a regular Saturday in January for the same room, the Atlantic Coast casino mecca is 232% more expensive. That positions Atlantic City as the destination with the highest rate increase among all those covered by the survey.

New York City rounds out the Top 3 podium at an overnight rate of $349 for its least expensive room. In contrast, with rates well below $150, San Antonio, Louisville, Houston and Washington, D.C., are listed among the most affordable destinations to ring in the New Year. Coming in at the very bottom of the rankings is Salt Lake City, Utah. There a New Year’s Eve reveler will spend just $109 for the most affordable room.
