Carlson Rezidor follows new property announcement with new appointment

With a new Kampala property now firmly rooted in the Carlson Rezidor stable, the global hotel group has taken the next step to strengthen their regional management team with the appointment of a Regional Director in charge of Eastern Africa.

The first hotel, under the Radisson Blu brand, opened in late 2015 in Nairobi, followed by the Radisson Blu in Kigali in June of 2016. In both cities, Carlson Rezidor has in fact added another of their brands, a Park Inn, with Kigali already operating, while Nairobi will see their next hotel open within a few weeks from now.

Including Kampala, where no formal opening date has yet been set, nor has the final branding been confirmed – it was meanwhile established that it will not be operated under the Radisson Blu name – that will bring the overall number of hotels under one of the Carlson Rezidor brands to 5, with more said to be in the pipeline.

Mr. Ian Rydin, besides overseeing the Eastern African region for Carlson Rezidor, will also at the same time be the General Manager of the Radisson Blu in Nairobi, where he will be based.

Ian arrives from Carlson Rezidor’s Brussels Office where he served for the past two years as Senior Director Future Openings after previously managing the Radisson Blu hotels at Manchester Airport, Dubai Downtown, and Istanbul.

Former GM Mr. Jens Brandin, who was based in Nairobi during the construction, the preopening phase, and then the first 14 months of the Radisson Blu, has transferred to the Radisson Blu in the Norwegian port city of Stavanger.

Another key member of the Carlson Rezidor team is Ms. Vicky Muyanga, Regional Director of Sales and Marketing, who is also based in Nairobi.
