Cornwall Airport Newquay marks 50% growth with Ryanair

Celebrating a significant expansion of its route network, Cornwall Airport Newquay (CAN) has welcomed the inaugural flight of Ryanair’s new connection to Faro. Just one year after re-introducing services from the Airport, the arrival of the Irish ultra-low-cost carrier’s (ULCC) twice-weekly service to the Algarve marks a 50% growth in Ryanair’s operations from CAN.

With the Airport recording an exceptional 48% increase in passenger traffic in 2016, Ryanair’s new link to Faro will result in the ULCC delivering up to 57,000 passengers across its three routes to the Southwest UK Airport this year. Having welcomed Ryanair last April, the new service joins existing links to Alicante and Frankfurt Hahn, with the ULCC now offering six weekly flights from CAN. The introduction of these Portuguese flights gives CAN an immediate 9.2% share of weekly seats and an 8.3% share of weekly flights across all routes to Faro from the UK’s Southwest airports.

Commenting on the important development, Al Titterington, Managing Director, Cornwall Airport Newquay says: “The introduction of Ryanair’s third route from Cornwall clearly illustrates the positive partnership we have with the airline and our joint commitment to expand CAN’s route network. Sun destinations are in high demand from the Southwest and we’re proud to now be able to offer a direct link to the popular leisure resort of the Algarve.” He added: “Early forecasts show that this will be our strongest year in passenger numbers since 2008 and should result in our fourth consecutive year of double-digit growth at the Airport.”
