Food, fun & music at Seychelles-India Day celebrations

A wide range of activities have been planned for the 3-day Seychelles-India Day event that will run from October 14-16.

A fourth Seychelles-India Day celebration will be officially launched on October 14 at the International Conference Centre in Victoria at 7 pm. During the ceremony, the Seychelles-India Day commemorative stamp will also be launched.
Activities on the program will include the annual food and fun fair in Victoria throughout the 3 days, a culinary cookery show on October 15 at the Avani Seychelles Barbarons Resort and Spa, and a free musical show featuring top Indian artists at Stad Popiler in Victoria.

The Seychelles-India Day event will run from October 14-16, and a wide range of activities have been planned for the 3 days. The list of activities was made known to members of the local media houses this morning in a press conference held at the office of the Minister for Tourism and Culture.

Present at the press conference were the Indian High Commissioner, Sanjay Panda; Principal Secretary for Culture Benjamine Rose; Chief Executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board Sherin Francis; Chairperson of the Seychelles-India Day Organizing Committee Ramu Pillay; and other members.


Speaking to members of the press, Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St.Ange said Seychelles-India Day is now on the country’s calendar of national events. He added that India is one of the 5 branches that have contributed to make Seychelles the melting pot of cultures that it is today.

Minister St.Ange thanked India for supporting and helping to make it a successful 3-day event in Seychelles.

Once again we will get the chance to see well-known artists from India who will showcase culture here for us to appreciate, Minister St.Ange added.

He also spoke on the donations which will be given to the Seychelles Tourism Academy and the Plaisance secondary school during this year’s Seychelles-India Day.

The committee will be donating benches to the 2 institutions and the handing-over ceremonies will be held on October 14 at their respective premises.

High Commissioner Panda said the Seychelles-India Day event was only a dream, but it has now become a successful event which has been added on the calendar of national events.



He added that during the 3 days, Seychelles will get the chance to discover the Indian culture not only through the musical performances by the top Indian artists who will be participating, but throughout the various other activities.

On behalf of the Indian Association and the Seychelles-India Day Organizing Committee, Mr. Pillay thanked the government, Minister St.Ange, and his team as well as the Indian High Commission for their support.

Members of the public will have the chance to taste a variety of dishes from all parts of India at Avani Seychelles Barbarons Resort and Spa on October 15. Tickets for the lunch are already on sale.
