The German Embassy in Tanzania marked the Day of German Unity with a message of peace through a sculpture of a Buddy Bear, symbolizing harmony and tolerance around the world.

A sculpture of a Buddy Bear based on the bear seen in the heraldic flag of Berlin, was inaugurated in Tanzania at a reception hosted by the German Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr. Egon Kochanke, Tuesday evening.

Buddy Bears, each two meters tall, are artistic designs carrying a message promoting living together in peace and harmony in the world. Around 140 Buddy Bears have been designed to represent as many countries recognized by the United Nations.

Mr. Kochanke said the Buddy Bear was a significant symbol for German and Tanzania friendship.

Germany has been engaged in various social and economic partnership with Tanzania through financial and technical support in areas of health, water and sanitation, conservation, and good governance.

Development cooperation is a focal point for Germany in Tanzania. Bilateral trade and investment and cultural relations are other important fields of cooperation.
