India travel organizations meet to discuss service tax

The vexed issue of service tax in the tourism industry, and the impact of the union budget on the tourism industry were two important topics that were discussed at the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) monthly meeting on February 8, which was addressed by taxation expert, Bipin Sapra.

For the first time, the IATO meeting was also attended by members of TAFI – Travel Agents Federation of India- whose President, Praveen Chugh, said that the problems and issues faced by operators and agents were similar.

Sapra and other speakers emphasized that concerned officials in the government were keen that the tourism industry speak in one united voice.

IATO President Pronab Sarkar said that they may hold such joint interactive meetings in the future.
