New cabinet lineup in Seychelles splits culture away from tourism but adds civil aviation

New administration of President Danny Rollen Faure in the Seychelles will have a slightly different character from the previous administration

The new administration of President Danny Rollen Faure in the Seychelles will have a slightly different character from the previous administration, as advance notice of developments has suggested.

The Ministry of Tourism and Culture, presently held by Mr. Alain St. Ange, will see the culture portfolio go to the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, leaving Tourism to be paired with Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine, a significant expansion of responsibility for the Minister who will be tasked to look after these important areas.

The cabinet list of the 12 ministries was given as follows:

Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change, Ministry of Habitat, Infrastructure and Land Transport, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Local Government, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Trade and Economic Planning, Ministry of Employment, Entrepreneurship Development and Business Innovation.

The new Vice President will also see his or her portfolio swell with added responsibilities including Department of Information, Department of the Blue Economy, Department of Investment and Industry, Department of Information, Communications and Technology (ICT).

No names of the new Vice-President, Designated Minister and other Ministers were announced at this time, after President Faure addressed the Parliament earlier today and the presidential speech will be discussed in parliament on Thursday this week.

It was also learned that ministers will no longer serve as chairpersons of state corporations which suggests that current Foreign Affairs and Transport Minister Mr. Joel Morgan will step down in due course from his position as Chairman of the Board of Air Seychelles.

President Faure also met with two former Presidents Michel and Sir Mancham though no details of the discussions were made public at this stage.
