Turkish authorities raised the number of dead to 39 and confirmed 16 foreigners, most likely tourists are among the victims at today’s nightclub shooting in Istanbul.

This is according to a statement released by the Governor of Istanbul on the first terror attack in 2 017

UPDATE: More confirmed dead and injured by Governor

Governor of Istanbul province Vasip Sahin has reported that at least 35 are now confirmed dead, one of which was a polic officer, and 40 have been wounded. He believes this was a terror attack, although he did not say by what group. Some witnesses claimed the attackers were “speaking Arabic.”

“This is not ok, 2017 just started; we want peace in the world,” tweeted @asadgerm.

UPDATE: Terrorists still in club, shooting

One of the terrorists is still inside the nightclub (whereabouts of 2nd gunman has not been verified) and shooting is ongoing in what may be a possible massacre. There are 700 to 800 guests in the club as police negotiate with the gunmen. 20-30 confirmed injured.

A terror attack on the travel and tourism industry is unfolding in Istanbul, Turkey, at one of its most popular nightclubs in the Ortakoy area.

Reina, one of the most luxurious and largest nightclubs in Istanbul, is frequented by tourists from all over the world and located where there are many shops and restaurants overlooking the Bosporus River.

According to reports received so far and tweets on Twitter, many have been injured, and it is believed that at least 2 have died.


At least one man, but maybe two, dressed in Santa suits, opened fire with assault rifles in the club shortly after midnight.

A massive number of police and rescue workers are on the scene.
