The new High Commissioner of the Republic of Malawi to the Republic of Seychelles, HE Mrs. Hawa Olga Ndilowe, presented her credentials to President Danny Faure at State House this morning.
The President congratulated High Commissioner Ndilowe and noted that Seychelles and Malawi will continue to support one another in multilateral areas such as the African Union (AU) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
“I believe that if we have been able to make the development we have achieved for our people it is because we have also had the support of our continent, here I am talking about the African Union and SADC, which both of our countries are members. We will continue to exchange notes in these two important organizations that we belong to. We believe that Africa can do more and African Union needs to take into consideration the development challenges of each country and our own specificities. We are prepared to work closer with you in these two bodies that we represent,” said President Faure.
During the meeting, President Faure and High Commissioner Ndilowe discussed different areas of cooperation that could bring the relations between Seychelles and Malawi to greater heights, including youth, employment, culture, tourism, environment, the economy, as well as poverty alleviation.
“There is an array of potential for growth at the bilateral level, which would give added value and strengthen our cooperation ties and inevitably bring our nations closer,” noted the President.
Speaking to the national media after her meeting with the President, Mrs. Ndilowe said that it is an honor for her to be Malawian High Commissioner to Seychelles. She described her discussion with the President as interesting and fruitful, and hopes to strengthen relations between the two countries.
“There are opportunities for Malawi and Seychelles to cooperate, and we discussed the need for us to have a general cooperation of agreement which during my tenure I am going to work hard to make sure that we have an agreement. This will facilitate the cooperation between our two countries for the mutual benefit of our two people. The relationship between Malawi and Seychelles is very cordial, we have diplomatic relations for a long time now and now we just want to strengthen that,” said High Commissioner Ndilowe.
High Commissioner Ndilowe is based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Also present at the meeting this morning was the Secretary of State in the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Barry Faure, the Secretary of State for Presidential Affairs, Mrs. Aude Labaleine, Diplomatic Advisor to the President, Ambassador Callixte D’offay, Chief of Presidential Protocol and Presidential Affairs, Mrs. Jacqueline Moustache-Belle, and First Secretary at the High Commission of Malawi, Miss Awala Kankhokwe.
Seychelles is a founding member of the International Coalition of Tourism Partners (ICTP).
