Thomson Airways emergency in London Gatwick

Thomson Airways is operated by Thomson Holidays, a holidaymaker in the U.K.  The tour company has its own airlines. 45 minutes after take off from London Gatwick Airport for a 3-hour-and-30-minute flight to bring tourists from the UK to Tenerife, TOM4738 was circling at 7000 feet over Southern England.

The captain of the Boeing 737-8K5 with the registration G-TAWR declared an emergency.

The airlines said the flight had a technical problem and was holding while running through its checklist. It appears the crew was burning fuel to be able to return and land in Gatwick.

The plane landed in Gatwick without incident after 1 hour and 15 minutes circling.
